Christian Service at SJJ

Our Most Important Work is Developing Men for Others

Our mission is to develop Christian leaders.  We do this through theology classes, weekly Mass, retreats and by example. The Jesuit motto, Men for Others, is something Academy young men live on a daily basis. It is the foundation of who a Jesuit young man is.  Through Theology classes and Christian Service, Academy young men are inspired to “go forth in the world.”  Academy students share their gifts to serve others and, in forming relationships, demonstrate the love of God as alive in our world.

Twice a year, the entire Academy serves at various sites across northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan at locations such as the Toledo Metroparks, nursing homes and the downtown food bank.

Each grade in the Academy also undertakes a particular type of service during the school year.  Examples include:

6th Grade

  • Students volunteer every two weeks at Toledo Grows, an urban garden where our students practice active Christian Service.

7th Grade

  • Students volunteer every two weeks at Bittersweet Farms, working alongside autistic adults in their greenhouse.

8th Grade

  • Students serve every two weeks at SunBridge Schools, working with the younger students.
