Important Dates for College Planning

College Counseling Offers a Variety of Programs to Guide Students through the College Planning Process

Dates listed are subject to change

August 22, 2017  Application Boot Camp   
                      Seniors receive assistance in completing the Common Application, preparing the Activities Resume, and editing the College Essay.  Nuts and Bolts of college application processing is reviewed.

September 5 – 29, 2017   C.A.T.  (Colleges Applying To) Sessions   
 Individual appointments throughout the month of September with college counseling staff to review the status of seniors’ college application process.

September 6, 2017 – October 30, 2017   College Admission Rep Visits   
During September and October fall semester, Juniors and Seniors are encouraged to meet with college admissions personnel who visit the school.  Many competitive colleges, such as The University of Notre Dame, Boston College, Northwestern University visit SJJ (not other schools in the area.)

September 20, 2017   Parents as College Coaches   
                    All Senior Parents attend a two-part program. First is an overview of the financial aid and scholarship process, as well as a tutorial on the FAFSA form.  Second is a presentation by a top level college admissions professional on the role of the parent in the college planning and decision making process.

September 28 and October 12, 2017   Intake Day   
   All Seniors meet with the College Counseling staff to finalize the College Essay, Activities Resume, Common Application, and Naviance profile. 

October 3, 2017   College Fair for all Catholic H.S. Students, hosted by Lourdes College
All Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors are encouraged to attend a college fair to meet with representatives from over 100 colleges and universities.

October 30, 2017   Selective School Seminar  
       Top tier Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors and Parents are invited to hear a panel of admissions professionals from highly selective colleges discuss the nuances of applying to highly competitive schools.

January 10, 2017   College Kick Off !            
Juniors and Parents are introduced to the college planning and decision -making process.  The evening includes a guest speaker from a college, and the popular Admissions Game. 

January 24, 2018    Sophomore Seminar: Platform for College Planning
Sophomores and Parents are enlightened on what colleges look for in competitive applicants, especially curriculum choices.  A top-level college admissions professional shares this useful information.

April 23,-24, 2018     College Planning Seminars
Juniors and Parents choose from one of six sessions offered.  During these seminars, the College Planning Manual is distributed.  Topics covered are: the application process, building the Activities Resume, what colleges are looking for, how financial aid works, the importance of the college essay, and other integral aspects to the college planning and decision-making process.

May 24, 3018       A.R.E. You Ready?
Juniors are provided tools and guidance to begin crafting their College Essay and Activities Resume.
