The School

St. John's Jesuit High School, founded in 1898 and re-established in 1965, is a four-year, college preparatory school with an enrollment of approximately 850 male students, and an academy started in 2004 with 100 7th & 8th grade students.

The students are enrolled selectively from all economic and social backgrounds. The student body includes 9% African-American, 3% Asian, 2.7% Hispanic, and .3% Multi-Racial. A Catholic school, 60 % of the students are Roman Catholic and 40% members of other religious communities.

St. John's is a member of the Jesuit Secondary Education Association, and is accredited as a college preparatory school by the State of Ohio Department of Education and by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

St. John's Jesuit Academy, founded in 2004, is a junior high of 100 boys. The Academy is a member of the Coalition of Essential Schools.

St. John's has 84 faculty and administrative members holding 6 doctorates, 45 master degrees, and 33 bachelor degrees. The school has a 9:1 student to faculty/administration ratio.

Class of 2009

There are 211 members of the Class of 2009. In addition to the entrance test results, elementary and junior high school grades and the recommendations of elementary and junior high teachers, counselors and principals are of major importance in the admission process.

Grade Point Average

Each student's grad point average is computed based on all courses taken in high school, except Physical Education and SAT Prep. In evaluating GPA, the following factors should be noted:

  • Students are admitted selectively.
  • Students are not ranked.
  • Advanced Placement and Honors courses are weighted (AP=1.0 Honors=.5 provided C or better)
  • Virtually all St. John's graduates go on to college with 92.7% entering four-year colleges within one year.
