Students in the Academy participate in 11 sports from archery to wrestling. The athletic program keeps growing --with football, lacrosse, wrestling, and archery added in the last two years.
All athletic teams participate in the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) sports.
We believe athletic participation builds self-confidence and strengthens peer relationships. In addition, the mentoring gained from coaches adds richness to the experience. More than half of our coaching staff are St. John's graduates-these coaches truly know the meaning of being "men for others".
The debut of Academy football was in the fall of 08' with separate 7th and 8th grade teams.
Players were outfitted with new shoulder pads, the best in concussion prevention helmets, and jerseys that match their big brothers in the high school.

We are also proud that our 8th grade team won the "Toy Bowl" in the first year of academy football. Football practices 3 days a week, and is a member of the CYO.
Our soccer program is one of our faster growing sports; with this spring marking the first time we will have separate 7th and 8th grade teams. Another new addition to our soccer program this fall, were the young ladies from the Notre Dame Junior Academy. The soccer teams practice twice a week and play games on Saturdays and/or Sundays.
Our cross-country program has had a tremendous success --placing runners at the top or near the top in every CYO event. This year we hosted our first ever "TITAN OPEN" with competitors from 8 schools in Northwest Ohio. The cross-country team also makes an annual trip to the "Tiffin Carnival," the largest cross-country event in the U.S.
Our golf program is another popular sport growing yearly. Golfers are members of a local Jr. High golf league sponsored by South Toledo Golf Club. Students who participate in golf play 9 holes a week and also have one practice a week at the Maumee Sports Mall where they receive free professional golf lessons.
Basketball (Winter)Basketball is easily our most popular sport at the academy, with more than 60 students participating. Teams are chosen based on athletic ability, to help with player development and to improve the athletes overall experience. Our basketball teams participate in the CYO which has an end-of-season tournament for each league.
Our wrestling program enters its second year with nothing but positive reports. Wrestling is a club sport so we do have young men on the team from other area schools whose schools do not offer wrestling. Our wrestlers compete in local tournaments and have the opportunity to qualify for the state tournament in Columbus.
Track is a sport promising participants a great time. Our track team competes in "Mini-Meets" at local high schools where they are allowed to compete in 3 events. Our track coach encourages our young athletes to try all of the events to help their overall athletic ability. The track season culminates with a diocesan wide track meet.
Lacrosse enters its second year at the Academy. Relatively new to our area, it is quickly becoming one of the most popular. Our students have the luxury of receiving guidance from former high school coaches and players. Our lacrosse team competes locally against other junior high programs, and also competes in a tournament in Columbus. Lacrosse is also a club sport, so students from other schools may participate.
Our tennis program has been successful from day 1 at the academy. Tennis players receive one-on-one instruction from our coaches at Shadow Valley Tennis Club located 200 yards from the back exit of the Academy. The team competes against local junior high schools and travels to Bexley and Findlay for matches as well.
Baseball is the newest addition to Academy athletics-its debut is this spring. The baseball team will compete in the Lucas County Rec colt league.
Archery is being offered to some of our students during the school day, but our hope is to have a team to compete in statewide tournaments next year. Archery is a lifetime sport, and has been a hit with students who have participated.
