The Saint John’s Jesuit English department, understanding the
correlation between reading and academic success, has enjoyed success
with its mandatory summer
reading program. Students in all grade levels are assigned a reading
selection and corresponding study guide to complete over the summer.
The study guide or response journal will count as a grade, and students
will be tested over the material in the first week of school. It is important
that you are adequately informed so you can help your son acquire the
book and help him budget his time. Carefully following directions, he
must complete the assignment and be prepared to turn it in on the first
day of school.

Please, encourage your son to read many books this summer. He is not
limited to just the one or two that we assign!
