Welcome to my Health class. I am confident you will find this class interesting and challenging. You will study a variety of current health topics. Members of the SJJ Health and P.E. Department feel it is important that you acquire a detailed understanding of these topics so you can make responsible decisions regarding your health. Listed below is information concerning the units of study, my grading policy and classroom rules and extra credit opportunities.

Grading Policy
Your grade will be determined by a point system. To calculate your percentage, divide the points you have earned by the total points. The SJJ grading scale (below) will be used to assign your letter grade.

99-100 = A+
95-98 = A
93-94 = A-
91-92 = B+
87-90 = B
85-86 = B-
83-84 = C+
79-82 = C
77-78 = C-
75-76 = D+
72-74 = D
70-71 = D-

Grade Components

4. Current Health Reports
5. Notebook
6. Final Exam – 20% of the semester average.

· There will be a 10% deduction for late assignments.
· There will be a 10% deduction for any assignment, quiz, or test that is turned in without a name on it.
· You are responsible for making up any missed assignments, quizzes and tests due to an absence from class. Additional time will be granted if you were not present when the assignment, quiz or test was announced.
· If you have any questions or concerns about the material covered in class, I will be available for thirty minutes before and after school to provide assistance.

Extra Credit
1. Extra credit points will be awarded if you score above the 50th percentile on the mile run.
2. Extra credit quizzes will be given periodically throughout the semester.

Rules
1. Be on time and be prepared. Two infractions result in a JUG.
2. No food or drinks in the classroom.
3. Raise your hand if you want to speak.
4. Be in dress code.
5. An admit slip is required when you return from an absence.
6. Honesty is the only policy. If you are caught cheating, you will receive a zero.
7. Take care of the classroom.
8. Respect others.
