8th Grade Meets the Challenge
Is it possible to travel to Mars and back
in a morning?
The 8th grade recently accomplished that feat
in record time at the Challenger Learning Center in Oregon,
Ohio. The center is one of several operated by NASA throughout
the nation in memory of those who lost their lives in the
Challenger shuttle tragedy. Students participate in simulations
of real space missions. Each student has a vital role to
play in accomplishing the mission—a premium is placed
on teamwork. |

Under the guidance of Academy Science teacher Dave
Nichols, the class prepped and trained for their challenge and
then achieved it with time to spare. A buffet lunch at Pizza Hut
was the “crew’s reward for a job well done.

Internationally acclaimed Catholic youth minister brings his
message to the Academy
Jesse Manibusan brought his entertaining,
uplifting, inspiring message to the Academy in celebration
of Catholic Schools Week. Manibusan is a touring youth minister
who has performed all over the world and uses music, humor,
and inspiring personal experiences to spread his message
that “God is good…all the time” and to “Follow
your passion and God will lead you to use it for something
great.” Academy students were joined by high school
students in attending Manibusan’s performance in the
newly renovated McQuade Theater and all enjoyed the interactive
show and the energy, passion, and spirit of Manibusan.
