International Dance Troupe Visits SJJ
What is an international dance troupe doing at an
all-male school? Expanding young men’s awareness of the differences
of world culture, a goal SJJ has been actively pursuing the past
several years as part of the World as One Program.
On Friday, January 13, 2006, Several hundred
young men, composed primarily of third and fourth year language
students, global affairs students, and our 11 international students, experienced
the Festival of World Holidays Program International Dance Concert. |

The special performance featured dancers
from Russia, Mongolia, and Persian cultures, including a presentation
from Gregangelo, world renown for his Whirling Dervish, that several
of our young men tried to imitate. Senior Derek Richardson (pictured

“The ability to acquaint our young men with
international dance especially with such a stellar cast was an
opportunity we couldn’t pass up. It goes with our goal in
the World as One program to encourage students to experience other |

cultures, and dance is just another
way to do this,” explained Cherie Bischoff, academic principal. |
