TUITION ASSISTANCE

What is Tuition Assistance?
The Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) refers to funds granted to make St. John's Jesuit more affordable to families. Funds for TAP are generated by an annual fund-raising event, a scholarship endowment fund, the annual fund drive and through the contribution of generous donors. All grants are based on a family's financial need and the program's availability of funds.

Who should apply?
If a need exists, we encourage families to apply. A number of factors are considered to determine whether or not a family will qualify for tuition assistance. Utilizing a national review system the school determines the grant amount, if any, to be offered to the student.

Every family is expected to contribute something to the payment of tuition. Many factors are evaluated when determining tuition assistance. These include household size, number of children at private schools, family crisis, medical emergencies, business setbacks, etc. Each application is reviewed by an independent source.

Tuition assistance is assessed by a private agency. We make every effort to match the demonstrated financial need of any student who qualifies for admission and wishes to attend St. John's Jesuit High School.

In order to maintain tuition assistance, students must have a 2.0 GPA .

The following chart shows the number of Need-Based Financial Awards provided to families who completed the tuition assistance application in the 2006-2007 school year. St. John’s Jesuit High School focuses on fairly and equally evaluating all of its families based on each family’s income and tuition obligations. The Financial Aid awards are primarily awarded to lower and middle class families. Upper middle-class families with several dependent students in tuition charging schools may also receive financial assistance.

2008/2009 Financial Aid Need Based Award Distribution:

St. John's Jesuit High School Financial Aid Office reaches families with significant financial need and still supports middle class families. Consideration is especially given to middle class with several children in college or private schools. This year we had several families in the upper-middle class income range lose jobs or had a reduction in income. The primary goal of the St. John's Jesuit Financial Aid Office is to make a Jesuit education affordable for all families.

When should I apply?
Fall of 8th grade year and the Fall of each year after.

How do I apply?
Tuition assistance packets can be obtained by contacting the Scholarship/Financial Aid Office at 865-5743 ext. 248 or complete an Online Application (below). All applications are held in the strictest confidence by the Tuition Assistance Committee and by St. John's Jesuit.

Complete an Online Application.

How do I know if I qualify?
The Tuition Assistance Committee attempts to advise all incoming students before registration (March) and current students by early May.. Tuition assistance applicants receive a letter informing them if aid is being awarded or not, and for how much. All families are expected to make some contribution towards a student's tuition.

Must I re-apply every year?
Yes, grants are not automatically renewed. Tuition assistance application form must be submitted for each school year.

Does this aid have to be repaid?
No.

Does St. John's Jesuit have a work-study program?
Yes, however, the work-study program is selective because there are a limited number of positions. You must qualify for tuition assistance to be eligible for consideration for this program.

Does an award of financial aid guarantee acceptance into St. John's Jesuit?
No, tuition assistance is awarded independently of the admissions process and has no impact on the decisions made by the Admissions Committee.

When assistance is awarded, what options are available to pay the remaining tuition balance?
St. John's Jesuit offers four payment options:

  • The annual payment plan requires tuition to be paid in full by July 1.

  • FACTS Payment Program. Families can divide their tuition payments over a 8, 9 or 10-month cycle. Payments are zero interest with an annual fee of $150.

  • Use Visa or MasterCard.
