Giving to St. John's Jesuit
Campion Legacy Society
Jesuit missionaries first arrived along the Maumee River around
1750. As the population of the area grew and the city of Toledo
was incorporated, the decision was made to open a Jesuit high school
and college, which was done in 1898. St. John’s achieved
much success in its inaugural years, educating many students that
would become leaders and professionals in the Toledo community;
however, it fell prey to the financial realities of the Depression
and was forced to close in 1936.
Under the direction of Fr. Nicholas Gelin, S.J., St. John’s
reopened in 1965. "Today, St. John’s begins its second
springtime with a planting that we pray will yield a harvest comparable
to the first,” Fr. Gelin said. Indeed it has. Through the
generous support of alumni, parents and friends, graduates of the
new St. John’s have become today’s leaders in Toledo
and other communities around the country.
The Campion Legacy Society was established to help ensure that
financial circumstances never again force St. John’s Jesuit
to shut its doors. The Society recognizes those individuals who
have or who plan to support St. John’s Jesuit through a planned
giving arrangement, such as a bequest, trust, or insurance.
While some legacy gifts are restricted for special projects, most
go toward our endowment, ensuring a more stable future for the
students of St. John’s Jesuit. With a gift of $10,000 or
more, arrangements can be made to have a fund named in honor or
memory of someone, providing a lasting legacy and tribute to that
person and their family.
