for the Boyne Highlands trip on February 8-10! Here's
the information!
The following information will provide some specifics
about the activities and clubs available at St. John's Jesuit High
School. As important as academics and test scores are, colleges
and universities are also looking for activities and clubs as success
indicators. Involvement in activities promotes you as a person who
is cooperative, dedicated, and involved in your school community.
Activities also give you an opportunity to meet new friends whose
interests are similar to yours. If you have any questions or need

African- American Assembly - Mrs. Ransey
This club participates in Black College Fair Trip, Black History March,
Mentor/Tutor Program at Pickett Elementary, Cedar Point Trip, and African-American
Picnic.
Art and Photo Club - Mr. Zawojski
If you are looking for an opportunity to express your art talent but are
lacking in ability to draw, this is the club for you. Students have had
their photography displayed in shows in Cleveland and the Toledo Museum
of Art...the next artist could be you!
Baseball Club -
Mr. Sanborn
Baseball Club is for the student who enjoys baseball trivia, memorabilia,
movies and info about “the great American pastime”.
Bird Watching Club - Mr. Douglass
Enjoy the out of doors? Join Mr. Douglass and club members learning
more about birds, identifying them, and visiting their habitats in
and around NW Ohio.
Bowling - Mr. Jones
The SJJ bowling teams have enjoyed very successful seasons for many years.
Whether you are a novice or expert you are welcome to sign up during the
fall for a great time year long at the alley. Listen for meeting announcements.
Campion Hall Players

Activities include the fall play and the spring musical. There are opportunities
to be a part stage crew as well as cast. Show your school spirit and become
a part of a memorable production while at St. John’s Jesuit High
School.
Cavalier - Mr. Holman
The school newspaper is always looking for budding writers. If you feel
that this is an area of interest, please take this opportunity to become
involved with the award-winning Cavalier.
Cheerleaders

Open to any senior who is willing to enthusiastically promote positive
spirit within the student body. Works closely with Spirit Club and pep
band.
Chess Club - Mr. Jensen
If you have a desire to become involved in the game of chess and to have
the opportunity to play a game you enjoy, join the Chess Club.
Chess Team - Mr.
Hinkle
SJJ's official chess team. All levels of play accepted. Learn more about
the game and improve your skills weekly as well as compete against Toledo
area schools. Opportunities for state and national play also possible.

Ready for a good laugh?! Come to Comedy Central and enjoy the roots
of comedy from Stooges to Lucy and Ricky and Johnny Carson!!
Competitive Speaking - Mrs. Peg Nixon
Computer Club
- Mrs. Sinha
Here is a great activity for students with a serious interest in computers.
This club will facilitate your interest and allow you opportunities to
explore more in depth the world of computers.
Crew - Mr. McElroy
Crew is a club sport that has a fall and a spring season. Students interested
in “rowing” on the “mighty Maumee” and other exciting
destinations will love the camaraderie and the workout. Seniors and coaches
get involved in transportation coordination so that any student can participate.
Debate - Mr. Hoppenjans
St. John’s Jesuit debate team offers individuals the opportunity
to do what a lot of kids like best: ARGUE. Debaters research national
policy topics, prepare pro or con positions, practice argument skills,
then compete against other teams from Ohio and Michigan.
Film Society - Mr. Carnicom
Participants will gain knowledge of many genres of film through film history,
mechanics and artistic analysis for the purpose of possible career preparation.
Carefully selected films will be viewed on a weekly basis. Discussion
and study using a textbook will be featured.
Fitness Club - Mr. Miller
Here's a great opportunity to learn what our Lyden Center
has to offer. Proper use of equipment, free weights, etc. will be stressed
as well as fitness, proper nutrition and maintaining a healthy life style.

Fly Fishing Club - Mr. Borgelt
Calling all fishermen or future anglers. Get "hooked" on
this very popular sport. Learn about or enhance your fishing basics and
head out
to "the great outdoors" to practice
your skills.
French Club

If you would like to sample French Cuisine, play games, watch movies,
then French students, you need to check out French Club. The yearly
eclair
sale is always a “treat”.
German Club - Mrs.

Are you anxious to experience German culture, like to watch movies and
enjoy sharing a variety of other activities with students studying German?
Get involved in the German Club.
Guitar Club - Mr.
Mullan
Get jammin’ at guitar club. Bring your ax and enjoy the sounds of
fellow Titans on acoustic or electric.
JETS - Mr. Simmons
Junior Engineering Technical Society
You will be involved in designing and building objects. Field trips will
be scheduled to places such as the Dana Corporation. If this is an area
that may be of interest, explore this award winning activity.
Juggling Club -
Mrs. Hauptman
This club is service oriented. You do not need to be able to juggle to
become a member of this club. Your new juggling skills will be used to
entertain individuals who are in need of a smile and happy memories of
your visit. You will perform at area hospitals, nursing homes and during
open house.
Literary Magazine
/ INSCAPE -Mrs. Bauer / Mrs. Ramos
Be a part of St. John's Jesuit first annual Literary Magazine. Be on the
cutting edge, helping to name the magazine, design it and select student
writing for this innovative publication. If you are not interested in
the publishing aspect, definitely plan to submit your writing for inclusion
in our new endeavor.
Martial Arts - Mr. Welling
The return of the Martial Arts Club will be open to all SJJ students.
The club will appeal especially to those who have been or are now involved
in some way with matrial arts. We will explore the history and philosophy
of various schools of thought and practice through films, handouts, discussions
and visits from martial arts practitioners (based on time and availability).
Our club will not be expected to be nor used solely to serve as a "How
to Do It" organization.

Are you a future Jeopardy contestant? Would you like to sharpen your
trivia and not so trivial skills by competing as a team member against
area high
schools? Plan to investigate Quiz Bowl......it may be your “Activities
Answer”.
Science Club - Mr.
Douglass
To promote the field of science, this club plans a variety of after school
activities. Trips to: local industries involved with energy and transportation,
such as Davis-Besse, SS Willis Boyer; museums and conservatories, COSI,
U of M. Botanical Gardens; research labs, MCO, Toledo Hospital are among
the many that have been enjoyed. Guest speakers and conservation projects
are also a part of this very energetic activity.

For those students who want to take their interest in Spanish a step further...learn
more about the food, culture, and sights in Spanish speaking countries.

Student Council
- Mr. Hinkle
Student Council holds meetings on Wednesday afternoons after school in
room 108. Meetings usually begin at 3:15 p.m. To be elected to Student
Council you need to run for class representative or be elected to the
Executive Council. Freshman elections are held in early fall. Other
elections
are held in late spring. Council sponsors elections, dances and a variety
of other social and service opportunities. If you are interested in
signing
up for a committee see the sign up in the Commons. You don’t have
to be a rep to work on committees.
T.V. 4 - Mr. Rychnovsky
If you have an interest in television broadcast, please see the moderators
personally. News preparation, broadcasting, technical expertise as well
as taping are all part of this exciting activity.
Titan Pride - Mrs.
Ramos / Mrs. Trempe
This organization provides spirit, makes a statement, and is involved
with many countywide activities. If you are someone who would like to
work on service projects affiliated with Ronald McDonald House, to be
involved with activities that are fun, and to work with other schools
in Lucas County planning fun nights, etc., then Titan Pride is the organization
for you. Titan Pride is affiliated with the Lucas County Youth-to-Youth
Organization.
Yearbook - Mr.
Rosen and Mrs. Telfer
Mr. Rosen and Mrs. Telfer are the Promethean advisors. They are always
looking for energetic, dependable, individuals who have an interest in
working
on
the yearbook
staff. If you have an interest in this area, you need to see Mr. Rosen
or Mrs. Telfer, personally.
Other Opportunities
Athletics - Mr.
Miller, Athletic Director
There are three high school sports seasons. Pay close attention to the
announcements for official starting dates of open and required practices
for each sport. If you have specific questions regarding a particular
sport, please feel free to ask Mr. Miller. These individuals
would be happy to answer questions regarding athletics. Please feel free
to ask teachers, coaches, counselors, etc. They will direct you to the
appropriate person.
Ambassadors -
Mr. Savona
Members of this organization are chosen after recommendation of teachers
and an interview process. The students work with admissions, advancement
and alumni.
Members are involved in many service and volunteer opportunities. Ex.:
8th grade visits, Dinner Auction, Freshman Orientation and Reunion Weekend.
Campus Ministry -
Father Pipp / Mr. Richard / Mr. Harms / Mrs. Chambers
Help plan and implement the masses, retreats, prayer services and other
spiritual activities at SJJ. This is one of the busiest departments of
our school. See Mrs. Foster for more info.
Christian Service
- Mr. Skeldon
Core team of juniors and seniors chosen by recommendation and interview
after application. Plans Hunger Awareness Week and all mission collections.
Service opportunities in the community and in Guatemala and the Dominican
Republic are part of the Christian service experience for a number
of
young men.
Intramurals -
Mr. Robinson / Mr. MacDonald
Any student who enjoys playing sports for fun has a weekly opportunity
to do so. Each intramural season runs approximately six weeks. Football
is played in the fall, followed by basketball in the winter and soccer
in the spring. What a great way to enjoy a Sunday afternoon. Sign up a
team, come alone or with a friend and join a team. Sign-ups are held several
weeks before the sport begins. Listen for announcements.
National Honor Society
- Mrs. Sibley
Election to National Honor Society is a very prestigious honor. Selection
is based on superior grades, service to school and community and recommendations
from within and outside the SJJ community. Juniors and seniors are eligible.
Peer Mediators - Mr.
Borman
Mediators are trained to work with students who may be involved in current
or potential situations that involve conflict using conflict resolution
to solve problems.
