Athletic Department at St. John's, with the Jesuit influence, approaches
athletics holistically by developing the individual within a team setting.

Not only did the SJ Basketball team in 1926 play well,
but they looked and acted sharp, too.

Ed Heintschel earned his 200th victory in basketball in 1998.
One can credit his intensity during the time-out huddle, to be sure.

Once again in the huddle, Ed tries to come up with some final encouraging
advice for the boys, from his left, Jeff Hand '92, Reggie Hodge '92, Tim
Hohl '92,
Eric Kovatch '91, Dan Maidlow '92, Shane Komives '91, Luke Pollock '91,
assistant coach Ed Mouch, and Saint Anthony Crawford '92.

In a classic, celebratory pose, Saint Anthony Crawford, John Amaechi,
Shane Komives, and Aaron Savage raise their fists to signify their
victory for the City League Championship at Savage Hall.

In what is heralded as the best photo ever taken at a St. John's
athletic event, Butler attempts to block the kick.

strongest and most popular sports at St. John's.
