The Freshman Retreat generally takes place in October
of each school year. All freshmen attend this retreat, which has
borrowed from other Jesuit high schools where the retreat has been
very successful. The retreat is staffed by junior and senior leaders
who prepare the retreat. Those upperclassmen are prepared and supported
by the campus ministry staff. Members of the faculty and staff of
SJJ also help with the retreat. On the afternoon of the first day
of the retreat, freshmen gather at St. John's and move into classrooms
throughout the building. Twenty-four hours later, they depart from
St. John's after having been led through a variety of exercises
by their upperclass leaders. Graduates often point to the freshman
retreat as a highlight of their four years at SJJ.
